Contribution to Moving Towards the College Vision
The curriculum area contributes to the Business and Enterprise ethos of the college in the following ways:
- Reference is made where appropriate, within the schemes of work, to the music industry past and present.
- Professional musicians are encouraged to talk to students about their work and place within the industry, as well as to perform.
- Students are involved in the preparation and promotion of concerts in college and out in the community. This is likely to be even more so as the Performing Arts courses are launched this year.
- Students and staff have been involved in the making of a music CD in partnership with the Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education. Students studying A level photography were involved with the sleeve design and A level business students handled the promotion. The 20 track CD, entitled ‘Up the Tempo’, is available from the college, price £5.
- With the introduction of the new Applied GCSE course in Music - Performing Arts, students in key stage 4 will be very much involved in setting up and running small production teams and giving performances in work related learning situations.
