The Curriculum Area plays an active part in maintaining the College ethos to enable students to experience an exciting and creative climate for learning" through the delivery of science.
By its very nature, science is at the forefront of technological advancement and as such plays an increasingly important role in 21st Century life. As a curriculum area therefore, there are numerous occasions where the delivery of the curriculum draws upon ideas and concepts which directly relate to Business and Enterprise.
Therefore the "Business and Enterprise culture and ethic" is not seen merely as an 'additional extra' to the already crowded science curriculum, rather as an integral part of the curriculum at all key stages. The schemes of work have been updated to reflect this and new innovations in teaching and learning are discussed through regular meetings of the Faculty Management Team and teaching staff to further these novel approaches.
Since the faculty is one of the largest in the College with the majority of students taking at least two science GCSEs or the equivalent (BTEC) and the opportunity to sit up to three science courses at AS/A2, there exists a great number of opportunities to further develop dialogue with Grimsby College and to encourage students to move into employment, further training and higher education. BTEC First Certificate in Applied Science allows the students even greater choice in how to proceed in higher education and develop expertise in the world of work when they leave the College.
There currently exist links with local industry and new avenues are being explored with Humber-bank industries to further develop connections between businesses and the Science curriculum area.
