Key Stage 3

At KS3 the scheme of work and teaching materials follow the Longmans Exploring Science scheme which closely follows the QCA scheme of work. It is differentiated to provide different routes to meet the needs of students with different KS2 level of achievements. The Longmans Exploring Science ‘Active Book’ interactive software is used to deliver engaging lessons which links directly with the text books. We have a large selection of other software to enhance the teaching of Science using ICT, including new, state of the art, data logging equipment. A large proportion of the older equipment has been updated and more will be replaced in the near future. The dedication and commitment of the staff has also led to a series of differentiated teaching booklets, a homework scheme and other associated assessment materials being produced for each of the units at KS3.

Students are regularly informed as to which level they are working. Formative assessment, tests and exams all generate a National Curriculum level. In addition formative assessment advises the student on what strategies are needed for improvement.
