Contribution to Moving Towards the College Vision

Business and ICT in Schools

The Business Curriculum Area makes a crucial contribution to the Specialist Business Status of the College.

Most notable recent successes have been;

  • Consistent improvement in GCSE outcomes in Business Studies; from 38% A* to C in 2003 to 64% in 2007.
  • Business Studies continues to excel at Key Stage 5. In 2007, 46% of students achieved Grades A to B at A2; 52% at AS.
  • Introduction of A Level Economics which is proving popular and successful. In 2007, 67% of students achieved a Grade A (the best outcome in the College) while over 30 students are studying the course in 2007-08.
  • Continuing review of our programme of study to ensure that student potential is maximised and that the College continues to improve its examination performance at Key Stages 4 and 5.

The Curriculum Area is also at the heart of Tollbar’s Enterprise Education provision;

  • Young Enterprise - In 2006-7, five Young Enterprise Companies were formed; two of whom reached the Regional Final.
  • Pro-Share – all students in Year 10 (and most staff!) enter this interactive and entertaining competition.
  • Coca Cola Challenge – in 2006, all Year 10 students participated in the College Heat of the Yorkshire-wide competition with the winning team competing at the Regional Final in October 2006.
  • Tollbar participated in the ‘Make Your Mark’ Enterprise Challenge in November 2006.
  • Tollbar fulfils its role of Spoke School within SSAT’s School’s Enterprise Education Network sharing best practice and delivery in the area of Enterprise Education.
  • Tollbar has also secured ongoing funding to develop and deliver a Key Stage 3 Enterprise Education programme.
