Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8)

The Key Stage 3 Course is clearly mapped against the National Curriculum Programmes of Study and Attainment Targets. Our programmes are designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to allow them to be independent users of ICT, in order that ICT can enhance learning in other subjects.

Students study topics using Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Database, Desk-top Publishing, Web design and Control Technology.

Tasks are initially based on one application, such as the use of a database or of a spreadsheet. Later tasks involve the use of several applications or packages. All students follow a course designed to improve keyboarding skills.

Lessons in Years 7 and 8 are designed to enable students to reflect and evaluate the contribution that ICT can make in problem-solving. Students are given many opportunities for effective self- and peer-assessment.

Setting is reviewed on a termly basis to ensure that each student is in the correct teaching group, and any recommended changes are based on class and homework assessment information, Quality Mark results and the teacher’s professional judgement. At the end of each academic year a further review is undertaken, which takes into account the year’s exam results and performance in each of the Attainment Targets. Individual results and targets are recorded in each student’s planner.

Students in Year 9 will study the Diploma in Digital Applications.
