Assessment

At KS3 assessment is based on termly Quality Marks which are marked according to College policy and moderated within each subject area. Work is marked out of 20 and students know the NC Levels at which they are working, with targets for improvement. Marks are centrally recorded on the College database.

At KS4 students Quality Marks are based on GCSE criteria and are recorded on the college's assessment database. These take place half-termly.

At A Level thecurriculum areauses the College system of assessment, whereby each student receives their half-termly grade based on A Level exam criteria and a target grade is reviewed regularly for each student.

KS3 Examinations are held annually for all students each year. KS4 is eportfolio based therefore no examination is required.

Student behaviour – Rewards and sanctions

Staff use the Whole College Merit and Referral system for rewarding students for exceptional work. In addition, students showing a very high level of commitment or producing work of an exceptional standard throughout the year may be recommended for a College award.

Students whose behaviour or level of commitment falls below that to be expected may be issued with small written punishments, extra work ordetention. Incidences of more serious misconduct are dealt with through the College’s discipline procedures.

Each class teacher, and if appropriate, the Curriculum Leader deals with any instances of misbehaviour and inadequate work is reported to the Curriculum Leader who will communicate with parents if necessary. TheCurriculum Areafollows the whole College policy on sanctions.

Monitoring Poilicy

The Curriculum Leader and Assistant Curriculum Leaders monitor the teaching performance of all members of staff within the Curriculum Area, using OFSTED criteria, on a termly basis. A debrief is given after each session and a copy of the report lodged with the Principal.
