PHYSICS
What is the course about?
The course encourages students to:
- Develop essential knowledge and understanding in Physics and, where appropriate, the applications of Physics and the skills needed for the use of this in new and changing situations.
- Develop an understanding of the link between theory and experiment.
- Appreciate how Physics has developed and is used in present day society.
What will I learn?
Students will study 3 modules:
- Particles, Radiation and Quantum Phenomena
- Mecha nics and Molecular Kinetic Theory
- Current electricity and Elastic Properties of Solids
Students will also develop skills in laboratory procedures and techniques and complete one practical coursework investigation.
When does the course start?
The course starts in September of each year.
How do I attend?
Normal daytime attendance.
Where applicable this subject may also be taken as a part time evening programme.

AQA
How long does the course last?
The course is taught as a one year programme.
What does this course lead on to?
You may progress to A2 level.
AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.
What subject entry requirements are there?
Minimum Grade C in GCSE Physics or Dual Award Science and GCSE Maths at Grade A* to C.
Are there any other requirements?
Students will require a scientific calculator.
How is the course assessed?
By modular examination and one practical investigation.
