What is the course about?

Development and understanding of essential concepts in Biology. The understanding of scientific methods, an awareness of advances in technology, a recognition of the issue of Biology in society.

What will I learn?

AS and A Level specifications in Biology should encourage students to:

  • develop essential knowledge and understanding of concepts of Biology, and the skills needed for the use of these in new and changing situations;
  • develop an understanding of scientific methods;
  • be aware of advances in technology, including information technology, relevant to Biology;
  • recognize the value and responsible use of Biology in society;
  • sustain and develop their enjoyment of, and interest in Biology.

The units are:

unit 1 – Core principles.

unit 2 – Genes & genetic engineering.

unit 3 – Physiology and transport.

When does the course start?

The course starts in September of each year.

How do I attend?

Normal daytime attendance.

Who is the awarding Body?

AQA

How long does the course last?

The course is taught as a one year programme.

What can i do next?

You may progress to A2 level.

AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

GCSE Double Award Science Grades A*-C

GCSE Biology Grades A*-C

How is the course assessed?

3 module exams + 1 piece of assessed coursework.

How much does the course cost?

All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees or examination fees.
Otherwise: To be confirmed.

Are there any exam fees?

Exam fees are not payable by 16-19 year olds sitting these units for the first time.
Mature students will be advised as to the exam fees when enrolling prior to the start of the course.
