What is the course about?
It is a course, which allows you to study music as a practical, intellectual and creative subject with specialist pathways in performing and composing.
It recognises a cultural diversity through the Areas of Study by covering a wide range of music: classical, world, popular and jazz
What will I learn?
- How to develop skills in performing.
- How to develop musical ideas in composition and have them realised.
- How to use the elements of music to respond aurally to questions on extracts of music.
- To study in some depth an area of music of your choice, from the given list.
When does the course start?
The course starts in September of each year.
How do I attend?
Normal daytime attendance.

EDEXCEL
How long does the course last?
The course is taught as a one year programme
What can i do Next?
You may progress to A2 level.
AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education
Are there any Entry requirements?
You will be required to have at least a grade B in GCSE MusicorGrade 5 on an instrument or voice as well as grade 5 in the theory of music.
Are there any other requirements?
To have access to your main instrument at home, for practice and composition work.
Anthology of music for areas of study.
How is the course assessed?
Unit 1.
- Externally assessed SOLO performance 15%.
- Perform one or more solo pieces lasting 5-6 minutes.
- Externally moderated performances during the course - 15%.
- Perform during the course (4 occasions) which must include the performance of a composition.
Unit 2
- Externally assessed coursework of composition - 30%.
- Produce a portfolio of composition technique exercises and a composition.
Unit 3
- Externally assessed Listening exam - 40%
- Part 1. 45 min. listening paper.
- Part 2. Respond to structured questions on areas of study 1hr.30 mins. .
How much does the course cost?
All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees or examination fees.

Are there any exam fees?
Mature students will be advised as to the exam fees when enrolling prior to the start of the course.
