ECONOMICS
What is the course about?
AS Economics offers an opportunity for students to study the choices made everyday by individuals, firms, organizations and Governments.
It examines the role of firms in providing goods and services and looks at the decisions that face society in allocating resources.
It prepares students for further study of markets as they relate to commodities, leisure, sport, transport and labour.
What will I learn?
Through a variety of teaching methods and activities, students will;
- Develop an understanding of economic concepts and theories through a critical consideration of current economic issues, problems and institutions that affect everyday life.
- Apply economic concepts and theories in a range of contexts and to appreciate their value and limitations in explaining real-world phenomena.
- Analyse, explain and evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the market economy and the role of government within it.
When does the course start?
The course starts in September of each year.

Normal daytime attendance.

OCR
How long does the course last?
The course is taught as a one year programme.
What can i do next?
You may progress to A2 level.
AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.
Are there any entry requirments?
No requirement to have studied the subject previously

How is the course assessed?
Unit 1: 1 hour written paper 30%
Unit 2: 1 hour written paper 30%
Unit 3: 1 hour written paper 40%
How much does the course cost?
All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees or examination fees.

Are there any exam fees?
Exam fees are not payable by 16-19 year olds sitting these units for the first time.
Mature students will be advised as to the exam fees when enrolling prior to the start of the course.
