In depth study of Physical Education/Sport in both academic and practical contexts. It covers all the important areas in Sports Science and Sports Studies. It involves both academic and practical aspects of Sports Science/Studies.

What will I learn?

  • Contemporary Socio-Cultural Historical context
  • Biomechanical and Practical developments
  • Physiological / Psychological factors in performance Socio-Cultural / Historical factors in performance
  • Analysis/evaluation of factors in performance
  • Practical options include:
  • Association football,
  • Rugby Union/League,
  • Cricket, Badminton, Tennis,
  • Swimming, Track and Field,
  • Basketball, Volleyball, Netball,
  • Rounders, Mountain Walking,
  • Orienteering, Judo, Gymnastics,
To name but a few.

When does the course start?

The course starts in September of each year.

How do I attend?

Normal daytime attendance. Where applicable this subject may also be taken as a part time evening programme.

AQA at Tollbar

OCR at Grimsby Institute

How long does the course last?

The course is taught as a one year programme.

What can I do next?

You may progress to A2 level.

AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

Are there any entry requirements?

Ideally students should have a GCSE grade C or above but this is not essential.

Are there any other requirements?

It is also beneficial to be a regular participant in sport.

How is the course assessed?

AS & A2 Exams in June.

Internal Coursework assessment.
Two terminal exams in June for AS &A2.
Internal Coursework assessment.

How much does the course cost?

All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees.

Otherwise: £180 Daytime

Are there any exam fees?

For 16-19 year olds all exam fees in respect of qualifications essential to your full time course will be free of charge.
