What is the course about?

The course consists of 3 units.

AS

Unit 1: Listening and Reading

Unit 2: Writing

Unit 3: Speaking -Prepared Topic

A2

Unit 4: Listening, Reading and Writing

Unit 5: Coursework on chosen topics

Unit 6: Speaking

What will I learn?

You will learn to commu nicate at a higher level in the target language in the following areas:

  • Reading and understanding written French/German/Spanish from authentic sources such as media and a variety of texts.
  • Listening to and understanding contemporary spoken French/German/Spanish in recorded and face-to-face situations.
  • Speaking and writing French/German/Spanish to express ideas, exchange opinions and present information.
  • Studying of the culture of France, Germany and Spain.
  • Examining contemporary issues of the countries where the language is spoken.

When does the course start?

The course starts in September of each year.

How do I attend?

Normal daytime attendance.

Where applicable this subject may also be taken as a part time evening programme.

AQA German

AQA French
 
AQA Spanish

How long does the course last?

The AS course is taught as a one year programme.

A2 is the second part of the A level, lasting also one year

AS and A2 each make up 50% of the full A level.

What does this course lead on to?

You may progress from AS to A2 level.

AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

What subject entry requirements are there?

A good GCSE pass in the appropriate language (preferably grade A or B)

Other entry requirements will be considered on application.

Are there any other requirements?

You will need to purchase a good quality dictionary and verb tables/grammar books are desirable. Advice on this will be given by the tutors at the beginning of the course.

How is the course assessed?

For both AS and A2 there will be three assessments.

How much does the course cost?

All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees or examination fees.
Otherwise: To be confirmed.

Are there any exam fees?

Exam fees are not payable by 16-19 year olds sitting these units for the first time.
Mature students will be advised as to the exam fees when enrolling prior to the start of the course.
