FINE ART

What is the course about?

This course is aimed at all with an interest in fine art activities. Powers of observation and perception are heightened by continuous looking, questioning and understanding, which develop through practical application and research.

What will I learn?

Observational awareness forms the basis of this subject and the student is encouraged to experience many aspects of art and design with relevant historical references. The use of a wide variety of media is encouraged and the students are directed to develop their own personal styles of working.

  • Externally set assignment (exam)

All three units include a critical/historical note/sketchbook.

When does the course start?

The course starts in September of each year.

How do I attend?

Normal daytime attendance.

Where applicable this subject may also be taken as a part time evening programme.

OCR

How long does the course last?

The course is taught as a one year programme.

What does this course lead on to?

You may progress from AS level to A2. A2 can lead to the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, leading to Higher Education or employment.

What subject entry requirements are there?

GCSE Level Art at Grade C or above would be helpful, but not always essential.

Are there any other requirements?

You may be invited to an informal interview with a portfolio of your work.

How is the course assessed?

Assessed in the three separate component parts including practical coursework projects, critical/historical notebook and timed practical exam.

How much does the course cost?

All students who are joining a full time course and are under 19 years of age on the 1st September as their course commences, will not be required to pay tuition fees or examination fees.
Otherwise: To be confirmed.

Are there any exam fees?

Exam fees are not payable by 16-19 year olds sitting these units for the first time.
Mature students will be advised as to the exam fees when enrolling prior to the start of the course.
