What is the course about?

The course provides for a broad study of photography for students wishing to progress onto other courses, ie: HND etc. It is also suitable for people who wish to expand their knowledge of photography both practically and academically, enabling the student to gain a recognised qualification.

Each student will have access to the College’s darkrooms, photographic studio and specialist equipment.

What will I learn?

  • ·Aspects of the history of photography
  • Technical skills with the camera and various types of photographic equipment
  •  B&W developing and printing
  • Digital photography and use of ‘Photoshop’
  • Various aspects covering the types of photography in general use today, ie: landscape, documentary, creative etc.

When does the course start?

The course starts in September of each year.

How do I attend?

Normal daytime attendance.

Where applicable this subject may also be taken as a part time evening programme.

OCR

How long does the course last?

Year 1 AS Level

Year 2 A2 Level

What does this course lead on to?

You may progress to A2 level.

AS and A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

What subject entry requirements are there?

A willingness to work hard and enthusiasm to attend on a regular basis.

Are there any other requirements?

Books are not essential as the tutors hold a good stock.

You do not need a camera as the College can loan you one short term, however, it is best to have your own if at all possible.

You will need to buy your own film and printing paper for B&W work undertaken.

How is the course assessed?

Year 1 – AS Level

Two pieces of coursework, a personal investigation, (practical) plus a practical test.

Coursework carries 60% of the mark.

There is no formal written examination.

Year 2 – A2 Level

Coursework = practical and written work, plus a practical test.

There is no written examination.

All work marked with the college is also externally verified.
