What is the course about?

The course involves both practical media work and study of media theory.

The course is made up of three papers. One of these is a Practical Production and will be coursework based, it is worth 40% of the overall grade. This will incorporate scripting, planning and production of a video.

The two examined papers are weighted at 30% each. One is entitled Textual Analysis (texts in this instance will be TV programmes, films, magazines and so on). Students will analyse and evaluate media content and styles.

The next paper is entitled Case Study: Institutions and Audiences which introduces students to an understanding of media institutions, production processes, technologies and related issues concerning how audiences use and enjoy media texts.

The course starts in September of each year.

Normal daytime attendance.

Who is the awarding Body?

Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations (OCR)

How long does the course last?

Year 1: AS level

Year 2: A2 Level

What does this course lead on to?

AS + A2 levels are recognised qualifications for a wide range of courses in Higher Education.

What subject entry requirements are there?

Applicants should have five GCSEs at grade ‘C’ and above; one of these must be in English language.

Are there any other requirements?

Learners should have an interest in the media.

How is the course assessed?

The courses are assessed by written examination for two of the papers, the third paper is assessed via coursework.
