Caring for the Individual

Pastoral care is delivered through a House system. This is based on six Houses.

Cygnus House

Orion House

Each House is divided into House groups with each consisting of around 25 students. Each House group has a House Tutor and is a 'family unit' containing 4 or 5 students from each year group. The Houses and House Tutors are supported by 6 Assistant Principals and a Vice Principal who deal with specific pastoral problems.

Although this is a large College, students are not anonymous but are individually supported. Parental partnership is of vital importance; we seek committed parents who are prepared to be fully supportive of the College ethos. Regular communication on progress using quantitative data is a strong feature.

All our students in Years 7 to 11 are expected to wear their College uniform with pride.

We treat all our students as individuals and we go to great lengths to support their personal and academic needs. In return we expect our student to demonstrate respect for the College, each other and for all members of staff.

Although pastoral support is focussed through House Tutors and Heads of House, all members of staff provide effective care and support and any member of staff can be approached for help and support by any student who has worries or concerns.

We see every member of the College community as part of the Tollbar 'team' and we work very hard to ensure that every member of this 'team' is happy and secure and achieves their full potential.
