Vela House

Vela

House Colour: Woodpecker Green

Named after the Constellation of Vela.

Location: Northern Hemisphere

Right Ascension: 03h

Declination: +45°

Vela is one of the three constellations that used to form the huge constellation Argo Navis, the ship of Jason and the Argonauts. In 1763 Nicolas Louis de Lacaille divided the Argo Navis into three constellations: Carina (the Keel), Puppis (the Stern), and Vela (the Sail).

In Vela house we discuss our problems to find solutions. We value honesty. We always AIM HIGH!

In Vela House we work together to promote success. A team of dedicated tutors manage the important time spent in House groups every morning. They really enjoy getting to know their tutees throughout their time in Tollbar.

Vela House Celebration of Achievement

This year's assembly was an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the whole of Vela House. Awards were given to individuals and the contribution of House teams was also recognized. Parents of the winners were invited along to share in their sons' and daughters' achievements. Mr Kennard (Vice Principal) presented the prizes. One student from each House group is chosen to be a prefect. Each prefect was presented with their badge.

Two special badges were presented to the House Sports Captains. These students will lead the House sports teams in the coming year - Alex Garner VE10 and Devon Young VE11.

Endeavour Awards

The special Endeavour awards are given to those students who have tried consistently hard throughout the year. One student is chosen to receive the House Endeavour shield.

Achievements

Throughout the year Vela students have taken part in all Interhouse competitions and events. This year there were more students than ever participating. Because of this level of participation we were able to clinch victory in the biggest event of the year, Sports Day. The Vela girls were also able to win the Interhouse Dance competition with some breath taking performances.

As the interest and enthusiasm for the competitions continues to grow, we are sure to succeed in many more areas during the 2011/2012 academic year.
