Training and Development with Edge Hill

Through our partnership with the University of Edge Hill, we are able to offer access to a number of courses and qualifications with some attractive advantages.

Wanting to gain higher qualifications?

Many staff will spend many hours working out why something is not quite having the impact it might for their students; they then spend at least as long working on new ways of presenting information that might be more successful. More often than not this work goes unnoticed and mostly unrewarded. Whilst very few staff seek any reward other than success for their students, it is possible to have such work recognised as part of a higher qualification such as a Masters Degree. Edge Hill has a range of ways in which such on-the-job work can be recognised. Often this means no long and regular trips to a University campus, can be a very short process and will cost little or nothing by way of fees.

Wanting to become a teacher?

Teaching is now a graduate profession and also requires that all who work towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) have a good standard of literacy and numeracy (GCSE Grade C and above) as well as an Honours degree. We believe that as much as possible of a teacher's training should be in the real context of a school and classrooms. From time to time Tollbar will employ unqualified teachers who already have degrees and, through Edge Hill, will work with them to gain QTS. A small number of places on the Graduate Training Programme arise, but more frequently a flexible Post Graduate Certificate of Education will be a good way to gain QTS. Edge Hill University will work with us to ensure that training is totally relevant and does not require that applicants work through material that they have already learned.

If you don't have a degree Tollbar will help you select and apply for the most appropriate Foundation qualification and would be delighted to see staff progress all the way through to QTS.
